Lycian Way Day 3

Tekirova to Çirali - 22km, 6hrs 50mins

Today's walk was lovely, nice length, great views and at a hot shower at the end, the first one I've had in Turkey.

After two days in the mountains away from the coast, today was what I had hoped for on the Lycian Way. Once past the huge and empty hotel complexes near Tekirova I entered a secluded world of almost perfect coastal scenery. Beautiful little coves, each crowned with a pebbly grey beach, were separated from each other by rocky headlands covered in ancient pine and oleander. Underneath the trees were patches of tiny iris and cistus. The initial route followed an easy but slightly ugly forest road but for last third this was replaced by a narrow path, probably formed by fishermen, that snaked its way dramatically to the end of the route. Great day hopefully captured by the pictures.

The photos look very enticing and I wish I was there. The weather in Hove is not bad though, actually have some sun for once. Have you been swimming in that sea yet...?

    1. Enticing but cold, only a nutcase would swim in the sea in March, shame you're not here xx

  2. Great to see you are on the trail again John, even if it seems a bit rushed.
You'll find great variety on the way, coast and mountain.
Keep stopping for soft bread with salad and tea with the locals, they are so friendly.
You will find a cheap room with a family in every village.
    Regards John.

    1. You're right, very friendly people. Wish I could speak Turkish but we seem to be able to have a conversation of sorts. Slowing down a bit now.

    3. John, I don't know if you plan to walk around Goynuk, but if you do be aware that the sign-posting is poor. I managed to get myself lost in the canyon/gorge.

I completed the Likya Yolu in 2010. I hope you are enjoying it.

    4. Thanks for you're comment Norrie. I walked up the gorge on Day 1, I'm traveling East to West. You're right the trail marking isn't perfect but I'm following a GPS trail and that helps.

  3. John,
I'd love to follow this route. Viewranger doesn't let you download other peoples routes as gpx filed. Is there any other way of doing this?
    thanks, Chris

    1. Hi Chris, if you buy the Lycian Way book you can get the gpx files, I think there is also an iPhone app if you're an apple user. Alternatively you could get the ViewRanger app and view the route. I'm away at the moment otherwise I'd send you the files direct.

    2. Hi John, do you think you could send me the GPS files? I've contacted the Lycian Way team but they haven't got back to me.

      Cheers

    3. Hi Jez. I could but it would take a quite a bit of time. Why not get the ViewRanger app (its free and brilliant), set up an account and then download the routes. I see that I said I would send Chris the files but I'm afraid it slipped my mind.

      Sorry to push back

    4. Hi Jez

I think I have changed a setting that allows you to download the Lycian Way GPX file from Viewranger. I've changed the setting the whole route Elpont0079. Let me know if it doesn't work.
